RESERVATIONS
Online Reservation
While walk-ins are welcome, we highly recommend reserving classes online in order to guarantee your spot in class. Online reservations may be made two weeks in advance and up to 15 minutes prior to the class start time. In order to reserve online you must have positive class credits (note: all class packages can be purchased online). When you arrive at the studio, please check-in at the front desk so we know you have arrived and can ensure you have an enjoyable experience. Click here to schedule a class!
Telephone Reservations
You may call in your reservation within the 60 minutes prior to the start of class, however we strongly encourage using the online reservation system. We make this recommendation as the online reservations may book the class to capacity. We do not accept reservations left on our voicemail.
Class Cancellation Policy
You may cancel your class reservation up to 4 hours prior to the start of class with no charge. If you do not cancel, or if you cancel late, you will be deducted a class from your account. Clients with unlimited monthly packages will be charged a $15 cancellation fee. All cancellations must be made online unless you absolutely cannot get to a computer to do so. We enforce this policy in hopes that you will remember to give waitlisted clients a chance to take your spot.

WAITLIST INFORMATION
Classes fill up quickly, but spaces often open up due to unpredictable schedules. We allow up to 20 people on the waitlist, so if the class you wish to attend is full you may add yourself to the waitlist. As soon as a spot opens up in class, the first person on the waitlist will be automatically bumped into class and an e-mail notification will be sent out. This process may take place at any time of the day as it is sent out when a reserved client cancels.
You are responsible for your spot on the waitlist. By signing up for the waitlist, you are committing to coming to class when you get in. If you are added to class from the waitlist, you are responsible for showing up to class regardless of confirmation. As a courtesy, we ask that you call and confirm your spot.
If you are moved off the waitlist less than 60 minutes before the start of class you will not be charged.
Please cancel yourself off the waitlist if you do not think you have adequate time to respond to being bumped into class or your plans have changed and you are no longer available to take class at that time. This will allow for another person on the waitlist behind you to attend.
If you are signed up for more than one class or put yourself on more than one waitlist for the same day, this may result in multiple charges. Also, note that if you sign up for more than one class and attend an earlier class in the day, your later class reservations and waitlist reservations do not cancel themselves. Please cancel yourself out of ANY class you do not plan to attend to prevent the no show charge and open up a spot for another client to attend.

WAITLIST POP QUIZ: Test your Bar Method waitlist knowledge!
1. If I POP off the waitlist for a 12:15pm class at 10:30am, will I get charged a late cancel fee or class if I do not attend? Yes, because you were added to the class more than one hour prior to the start of class.
2. If I POP off the waitlist for a 9:30am class at 8:32am, will I get charged a late cancel fee or class if I do not attend? No, because you were added to the class less than an hour prior to the start of class and we don't feel this is adequate enough time for your to attend.
3. If I am on the waitlist for both the 8:00am class and 11:00 class on Saturday morning and I POP off the waitlist for the 8:00am class, do I need to cancel the 11:00am reservation? Yes, the system does not cancel other waitlist positions or reservations when you attend an earlier class that same day.
There are now several ways for you to see if you have moved from the waitlist and into class:
Check to see if you are in a class by logging into your class schedule. If you are in class it will read (From Wait List-Unconfirmed). This means you ARE in class and responsible for showing up or cancelling your spot. We will "confirm" you when you show up for class.
If you are still on the waitlist, you will see a [Wait List] link in the upper right corner of your schedule. To remove yourself from the wait list, click this link and select "cancel" to the right of the waitlisted class.
Look for an e-mail notification saying you have been added from the waitlist.
You now also have the option to get a text message delivered straight to your cell phone to alert you that you have gotten into class! All we need is the name of your cell phone provider. Please update your profile with us at the front desk on your next visit. Please note, activating the text update option is for all MindBody communications (e.g. waitlist confirmations, purchase receipts, etc.)

How to sign up?

Arrive at least 15 minutes early so you are on-time to class (you will not be allowed to join your first class after it begins). Bring socks (that cover your whole foot, including your toes), workout pants (below the knee) and top (tank top/T-shirt, etc.). Make sure you have had something light to eat 1-2 hours before class. Please note, gum and cell phones are not allowed in class.
New Client Policy:
New clients must arrive 15 minutes prior* to class to complete the new client paperwork. You will receive a brief tour of the facility from one of our Client Experience Specialists, have a few minutes to enjoy the amenities, as well as hang from the stall bar before class.
* For safety compliance, new clients who arrive after class has commenced will not be permitted to participate and will have to reschedule their first class.
If you have a heart condition, epilepsy, lupus, or severe sciatica, we require a doctors note that allows you to take stretching and strengthening classes on your first visit.

CHILDCARE PARTNER - WE VILLAGE
The Bar Method is pleased to present WeVillage, the Pearl District’s only licensed drop-and-go child care facility, as our exclusive day-care partner! Located only two blocks from the studio at 424 NW 11th Street, WeVillage is a local, community-oriented service that intertwines fun with education, in a happy and safe environment for your little one.
Our partnership will provide Bar Method clients with 1 hour and 15 minutes of childcare for $6, while attending a single Bar Method class. This arrangement accounts for taking the one-hour long workout class and a 15-minute grace period to make the trip between the two locations. Should clients need or want to extend their child’s visit at WeVillage beyond the 1 hour and 15 minutes, either before or after attending a Bar Method class, they will be charged the standard WeVillage rates (see WeVillage standard rates). Why not take advantage of this service and extend your “me-time”? Workout, go shopping, get your nails done and enjoy a latte…we won’t tell!
Upon checking-in at WeVillage with your child, you will receive a validation card, which in turn is presented at check-in at The Bar Method. The front desk staff will fill out the name of client, class time attended, and officially sign off on the validation card before the end of class. Clients will then take their validated card back to WeVillage and redeem their 1 hour and 15 minutes of childcare for $6 per child.
We highly recommend that our clients make a reservation for their child at WeVillage. All reservations, payments, cancellations and refunds related to child care services will be handled by the WeVillage team.

STUDIO POLICIES
Late-Comers to Class
First-time students are required to arrive 15 minutes early to complete the questionnaire and hang from the stall bar prior to class. Admittance is not permitted for first-timers once class has commenced.
Returning students may enter up to 10 minutes after class has begun, and are required to lift their knees 40 times prior to joining class. If class has been in session for more than 10 minutes, returning students will not be permitted to join. We strictly adhere to this policy for the safety of our clients.
If you are late, and someone is waiting for class, your spot may be given away. If you are running late, please call and let us know you will be there within the 10 minute time frame.
Attire
Socks (that cover your whole foot, including your toes) are required. Exercise pants or sweats that cover the knees are acceptable. Above the knee shorts are only permissible with bike shorts or something underneath. Workout tank-top or T-shirt must cover the midriff. Please refrain from wearing perfumes and scents as other clients may be sensitive to them.
Cell phone
For the courtesy of others, cell phones will not be allowed in the exercise studios during class.
Please do not chew gum in the studio during class.
Drinks
Capped water bottles are allowed and only clear liquids are permitted beyond the lobby. Please do not bring glass or uncapped drinks into the exercise studio.
Expirations
Class packages expire one year after purchase. Unlimited packages expire 30 days after activation.
Refunds
No refunds will be made after 7 days of purchase. Classes and packages are not transferable.
Age Requirement
The minimum age requirement is 14 years. Clients between the ages of 14-18 must be accompanied by adult.
Health Conditions

HEALTH REQUIREMENTS FOR PREGNANT CLIENTS
The Bar Method allows pregnant clients to continue taking class. We have adopted several modifications that allow the exercises to be performed comfortably throughout the pregnancy.
- Pregnant clients may participate with doctor’s permission (Please provide Doctor’s note)
- NEW CLIENTS who are pregnant must first do the Bar Method Pregnancy DVD a minimum of 5 times
- Please inform your teacher you are pregnant so appropriate modifications may be given

HISTORY
Burr Leonard, a former journalist, has been practicing and improving on the exercises that now make up The Bar Method exercise system since 1991. The Bar Method is based on the technique of Lotte Berk, a German ballerina, who after injuring her back got the idea of combining her ballet bar routines with her rehabilitative therapy to form a comprehensive exercise system. Burr had been an avid Lotte Berk Method student since 1981 and had been teaching since 1991 when she was The Lotte Berk Method's sole licensee.
Burr spent a year studying and teaching The Lotte Berk Method at the Manhattan studio, before opening a Lotte Berk exercise studio in Connecticut in 1991. Immediately, Burr noticed that some of her clients’ knees, backs and shoulders were not responding well to the exercises and sought the help of a physical therapist. Under his guidance she reworked the sculpting exercises so that they would target students’ muscles without impacting their joints. It was then that she noticed that as the positions became safer, they also became harder.
At the end of their ten-year license term, her version of The Lotte Berk Method had become so unlike their licensor’s that she made the decision not to renew. In 2001, she founded The Bar Method, sold the Connecticut studios and opened the flagship Bar Method exercise studio in San Francisco. For more than a decade The Bar Method Exercise Studio has continued to work closely with physical therapists to modify and evolve its workout to keep the exercises intense but safe and effective.
Denise Burchard and Meghann Markham are thrilled to bring The Bar Method to Portland. Both women never considered themselves “exercise class-type people” until discovering the benefits of The Bar Method. They found that The Bar Method helped them strengthen their bodies, stabilize their joints, and attain a long, lean, slimmer look without bulking up or aggravating previous injuries.
